Designing a Safer Harvard Square

Spring 2020

Target Audience: Cambridge, MA City Council

Self-Initiated

“Street design plays an important role in how comfortable somebody feels driving at different speed levels, so streets that are physically narrow or visually constrain fields of vision are known to encourage people to drive more slowly,” Braga said.

Harvard Square is one of the most heavily walked retail districts in Cambridge, MA. In the wake of a deadly early morning collision, I took time to produce images reimagining how Harvard Square could look as a people-centered space rather than one with so much attention on vehicular traffic. I sent the concepts below to the Cambridge City Council and challenged them to envision a safer future for the Square.

This independent project demonstrates my ability to create vivid and compelling visualizations of potential design interventions in a short turnaround time.
